Picking out all the different designs for our Custom Build has by far been the most fun. We are still in the process of honing out our floor plan and trying to fit everything we want in our new home with our Architect but I wanted to do a post and share all the inspo I have been gathering the last year.
Our current home has 1700 sq ft 4 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. Although it really is just fine and we could make it work long term if we needed to, it sure would be nice to have another full bathroom and have our living spaces a tad bigger. I personally love cozier spaces so I have never really had an issue with the size of our home.
Our goal for our new home is to keep it cozy and have around 2300 sq ft without finishing the basement and add that full bath we have dreamed about, a WIC in our Master (my clothes currently reside in a room in the basement), a butlers pantry, Laundry Room along with adding space to each the Kitchen and Living room. We are also going to have a walkout basement on one side of the house and have a actual patio on the other. I am personally not a fan of big tall decks so this is the best of both worlds for us. We will have big Flagstone steps down to the walk out and eventually that will be the pool area. Long Term Plan there.
One of the hick-ups we have had with the Architect so far is that I want our Living room to be vaulted so that really takes away from the space upstairs and trying to fit everything in has been challenging.
This is the very first photo that I fell in love with and really where it all started. Those dormers with the cedar roof and that porch with those pillars!! Ahh I am obsessed with this adorable house. Its just so perfect. This was the photo we sent to our architect but with dormers that come out of the roof like that and the amount of space we had to utilize in the upstairs because of the cathedral ceiling in the living room (which I was not about to give up) it would make those bedrooms really really small. So we then found this next photo.
Just as good but the exterior wall along with the dormers allow for the upstairs bedroom to have more usable space. so our exterior will resemble this home.
I’m obsessed with those goose neck lights and garage doors. For the main house I have been thinking to do two smaller garage doors like this instead of a double door. Eventually we will build another “garage” that isn’t attached to the house so I think we could get away with not having the big double door.
Copper accents.
Those big windows with transoms are a must. I told you in our announcement post (here) that our property has a really big ridge that we will be building on and you have this gorgeous view so we want to maximize it with tons of windows.
We are incorporating lots of Arch ways into the main level. I love the character they provide. Photo from Chris Loves Juila .
All the main floor windows will have transoms to let as much natural light in as possible.
A range alcove
True Marble and brass
Lots of built in storage. This is our Mudroom inspo and I think i prefer the look of these built in cabinets to closets.
Love this arched built in nook from Amber Interiors
Laundry Room Goals from the amazing Studio Mcgee
One of our biggest goals of building our home is to add lots of character where we can and add timeless elements that we will love for many years to come.
Hope you enjoyed.
