I have recently completely switched over to ALL homemade sourdough bread for our family. Once a week I bake 4 loaves of bread for toast, sandwiches, French toast etc. There is nothing like the smell of fresh bread being baked in the Kitchen. You can totally tell the difference between freshly baked and store bought bread. I actually used to buy sourdough bread from the store but its just not the same. A lot of extra preservatives, unnecessary ingredients etc. Sourdough is actually way better for you too which is an added bonus to having fresh baked bread.
In your kitchen aid add the following:
1 package fast rising yeast
3/4 cup warm water
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Cup Sourdough Starter
1 Tablespoon melted butter
*MIX* Together until combined
Mixing with a dough hook add:
2 1/4 Cups unbleached Flour
(can add 1 tsp of salt if desired but I use salted butter so usually don’t)
Set the timer for 5 minutes and let the dough hook do all your kneading. If you find that your dough is still sticking to the side of the bowl, add small amounts of Flour until it has pulled away from the sides.
Once your timer is up you will take your dough out and set it on a lightly floured surface. Knead it a few times and pat it down to make a rectangle and fold your edges over to create a seam at the bottom of your loaf. Set your dough loaf into a greased loaf pan. Cover your loaf pan with greased plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 45min- 1 hour.
Preheat your oven to 400.
When your bread has puffed up and reached the top of the pan remove your plastic wrap and place bread in the oven for 25-30 min or until golden brown.
Usually when the bread comes out of the oven the kids come running! Once my loafs have cooled I warp them up in plastic wrap and store them in the pantry. If your not planning on eating it within the week you can place it in the refrigerator for a few weeks or freeze.
