I am always trying to think of creative ways to get my kids involved in seasonal decor. Craft time is such a great way spend time together and also make them feel like they have helped in whatever space we are “making”. For Winter we decided to sew these Paper Gingerbread houses. I know it sounds strange to “sew” paper but it worked and turned out great. I wanted them to hold a form because I was placing them in the kids room on their peg ledge so When I sewed them I also added some pillow stuffing in the middle. It was super budget friendly and I had everything I needed on hand.

What you need:

• Roll of brown craft paper
• White paint and paint brush
• Thin yarn
• Large needle
• scissors
• Pillow stuffing

The first thing I did was trace out the shape of my houses on the craft paper with a pencil. I created a few different sizes. I then cut them out and traced out all the trimmings, door, windows etc. I changed things a few times so using a pencil and being able to erase was easiest for me.

We then started painting our houses. This was the best part for the kids! It is NOT perfect but I didn’t want it to be either. I love the character each houses has. We let them dry overnight before we sewed them shut.

I traced out the house to create a back out of brown paper and then because to sew both sides together. After I had two sides sewn I added the pillow stuffing and finished closing it up.

TADA! Look how cute these are. The kids are so proud of their little village in their room and they love to show everyone what they created.
